Robin Gustafsson holds a senior lecturer position at the Institute of Strategy and International Business at Helsinki University of Technology.
He is currently finalizing his PhD thesis. His supervisors are Professor Erkko Autio (Tanaka Business School, Imperial College) and Professor Markku Maula (Institute of Strategy and International Business, Helsinki University of Technology).
His work focuses primarily on institutional dynamics of technology fields and rationales and effectiveness analysis of technology and innovation policy. His research aims at developing a theoretical framework and analyzing dynamics of innovation structures (stability, inertia, and change) by studying logics and governance of knowledge value exploration and exploitation. Specifically he is interested in agency and interest and the role of institutional entrepreneurs in enabling paradigmatic change in technology fields. He is taking a neo-institutional sociology theoretical perspective and using both grounded theory method and social network analysis in his research.
Robin Gustafsson has worked previously in the Finnish National Technology Agency Tekes in the Impact Analysis Unit as the coordinator of technology program evaluation activity. This work included planning and organizing technology program evaluations, developing and managing feed-back and communication process of results in evaluations, participating in technology program concept and strategy development process. He also held several international assignments and memberships in the area of program evaluation. Former to this task he worked as a senior technology adviser in Tekes in the field of energy and environment technology where his tasks ranged from evaluation of company, university and research institute RTD projects, expert-consultation on EU RTD programs and participation in national technology strategy work in the area of energy and environment technology. He also had an overall coordination responsibility of the Water services 2001- technology program and of the Nordic cooperation in the energy research field and innovation cooperation activities in sustainable development.
